Description

Vince Flynn’s #1 New York Times bestselling Mitch Rapp series continues the American Assassin storyline, taking the young CIA operative on his first deep-cover mission in which he infiltrates a jihadi organization bent on unleashing a weapon of mass destruction—written by Don Bentley.

Mitch Rapp signed up to be an assassin.

A lone wolf who hunts and kills his nation’s enemies on their turf.

Now, he has a new mission.

When Mitch’s target—a Pakistani chemical weapons scientist for hire—is snatched from the streets of Verona, the American assassin must penetrate the jihadi cell responsible for the brazen kidnapping before they can make use of the scientist’s deadly expertise.

But Mitch isn’t the only one interested in the scientist.

The Pakistani represents an existential threat. A threat that will fray alliances, force enemies to seek common ground, and resurrect long settled vendettas. As the events triggered by the kidnapping cascade out of control, Mitch Rapp must stop the chain reaction before the Middle East reaches critical mass.

I’d love to believe that an Orion team actually existed to rid the world of so much evil.

Does not do justice to Flynn. Far too much backstory that adds nothing to the plot except to slow it to a crawl. Don’t waste your time or money.

Double Tap by Don Bentley, continuing Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp series, is a refreshing, fast-paced thriller. Its setting in the past offers a welcome break from stories centered on artificial intelligence and brings back familiar characters whose presence I have missed in later books. Mitch Rapp once again proves himself an American James Bond—resourceful, relentless, and willing to use deadly force to complete his mission. As Saddam Hussein attempts to conceal and transport chemical weapons through a network of smugglers, the stakes rise quickly. With Navy SEALs and Israeli F-15s pursuing the wrong convoy, Rapp is left to finish the mission on his own. Bentley’s military and law enforcement background lends credibility to the action, and he carries forward Flynn’s legacy with confidence. The result is an engaging thriller that captures the intensity and momentum that make Mitch Rapp such a compelling character. This is well worth the read. If you enjoy Mitch Rapp’s blend of espionage, action, and determination, Double Tap belongs on your reading list.

I read a lot of book series and the Mitch Rapp series is my favorite. This one the ending felt like it was totally phoned in.

Doesn’t capture the characters or do justice to the work of those in clandestine service. Couldn’t follow the disjointed subplots. I’ve read the entire collection and then once again. This book doesn’t match up. The author needs to start over.

Continuing to develop into a great Vince Flynn.
  • More than a bit uneven

So many subplots; many unresolved. There was more than one truck with WMDs; no mention of what happened to them. The Israelis were supposed to be collaborating with the US, yet they called in an air strike and the pilots had no idea the copters were US. The bad guys searched the people on the convoy and allowed a guy to keep a cellphone.
  • Totally incongruent title😡

Too choppy and filled with comments that took paragraphs of explanations disconnected to the flow of thought. Less would be more. I’ve read every novel since Term Limits and this was the worse yet. The bar is low so let’s get someone who can write and has a David Baldacci flare for mystery as well a flow of the thought and culture of the Mitch Rapp world.
